چکیده

CHIMERE is a chemical transport model widely used within the air quality scientific community. The actual version of CHIMERE is coupled with the MM5 mesoscale meteorological model. To facilitate model development, MM5 is replaced here with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. With the accuracy of air quality models being highly dependent on the quality of meteorological drivers, this coupling allows one to take advantage of relevant new developments in meteorological modelling. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. CHIMERE 2013: a model for regional atmospheric composition modelling

Tropospheric trace gas and aerosol pollutants have adverse effects on health, environment and climate. In order to quantify and mitigate such effects, a wide range of processes leading to the formation and transport of pollutants must be considered, understood and represented in numerical models. Regional scale pollution episodes result from the combination of several factors: high emissions (f...

Planet Boundary Layer Parameterization in Weather Research and Forecasting (WRFv3.5): Assessment of Performance in High Spatial Resolution Simulations in Complex Topography of Mexico

This paper presents the application of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF version 3.5) with high spatial resolution (3 and 1 km) testing four Planet Boundary Layer (PBL) schemes to the complex topography of Mexico in different numerical experiments that have tried to find the best configuration. The WRF is a Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) model giving support for weather forecasting ...

Annual Evaluation of Wrf-arw and Wrf-nmm Meteorological Simulations over Europe

The BSC-CNS is involved in the CALIOPE project (Baldasano et al., 2008), a national Spanish initiative that has as main objective to establish an air quality forecasting system for Spain coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment. The modeling system bases on the WRF-ARW model as meteorological driver (Figure 1). As is well known, air quality models are highly dependent on the quality of th...

Fully coupled ‘‘online’’ chemistry within the WRF model

A fully coupled ‘‘online’’ Weather Research and Forecasting/Chemistry (WRF/Chem) model has been developed. The air quality component of the model is fully consistent with the meteorological component; both components use the same transport scheme (mass and scalar preserving), the same grid (horizontal and vertical components), and the same physics schemes for subgrid-scale transport. The compon...

Meteorological Modeling Using the WRF-ARW Model for Grand Bay Intensive Studies of Atmospheric Mercury

Measurements at the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve support a range of research activities aimed at improving the understanding of the atmospheric fate and transport of mercury. Routine monitoring was enhanced by two intensive measurement periods conducted at the site in summer 2010 and spring 2011. Detailed meteorological data are required to properly represent the weather condit...
